  1. Avatars are the "virtual actors" which populate 
  2. cyberspace.  In a future computing environment, you 
  3. will no longer be just another process in the machine, 
  4. but instead will take on a virtual existence, as a 
  5. virtual actor for virtual meetings, games, gatherings 
  6. and performances.  For example, someday soon you'll 
  7. be able to three dimensionally shake hands with someone 
  8. in England when you're in Japan.
